Strengthening Families

The Strengthening Families program provides family members with coping skills, intervention techniques and education to best support loved ones struggling with addiction. Specialized services for children coping with addicted parents (COA’s) and siblings. Individual and group services are available to both children and adults. Group services for children may be provided in school settings upon request and utilizes the evidenced-based I Feel Better Now curriculum. The Freedom Center also hosts a one week summer camp for this youth population. This program is offered at no charge to Knox County residents and is generously funded the United Way of Knox County. It provides a safe space for education, emotional support, and personal growth.

Participants will:

  • Gain Understanding: Learn about substance use, its causes, and its effects on individuals and families. Understand how to distinguish between helpful support and enabling behaviors.
  • Avoid Enabling: Discover ways to avoid enabling behaviors while offering constructive support.
  • Access Resources: Get connected to local and national resources that provide assistance for both those struggling with substance use and their families.
  • Support for Loved Ones: Learn how to support family members with substance use issues in ways that encourage recovery and long-term wellness.
  • Build a Support Network: Connect with other families facing similar challenges to share experiences, gain strength, and develop a community of support.
